Xanya's Guide to Flying Spacecraft

This guide is for those who own a space ship and want to learn how to fly one.

Finding your ship and getting onboard

Before you can do any flying around you need to find your ship and get into it. this means you first need to go to a landing platform or a docking bay. Once there you type the command:

+list ships This command will let you see all the ships in the area. Please note that this command will only work when there is a docking registry in the area. The list that appears when you use this command shows all the ships currently in the area. To see what a ship looks like you can type the command: +slook <ship name> This command brings up the ships description. In order to board your ship you need to use the command:

+board *=* This helps you board your ship. This command works as followed. The first * is where you place the name of the ship. The second * behind the = mark is optional and needs to be provided when the ship has a its security activated. To get off the ships you can type the command:

+disembark This command only works when you're in the airlock area. once used you will get off the ship and find yourself in the landing pad or docking bay where the ship is located.

Starting your ship

Before you can fly around with your ship there are some things you have to do to prepare your ship and yourself for flight. Get yourself to the bridge or cockpit of the ship. This is where you will control the ship from. When you are there you can type the command:

+man console This command lets you man the control's of the ship, in other words you become the pilot. TO leave the console You can do one of two things. Either leave the cockpit/bridge or use the command:

+unman console This command is also useful when you want to switch to a better pilot to make those long ftl trips a bit shorter.

once you're at the control's you need to activate the ships power. Without it you won't be able to fly anywhere. Use the command:

+powerup To activates the ship's power systems. When you're done with your ship you can use the command:

+powerdown To deactivates the ship's power systems.

Other bridge or Cockpit

There are some other systems you might want to know about before you start to fly your ship. First thing is the security of your ship. Using the command:

+security on/off You will be able to activate the security of your ship. When activated no one can enter your ship without knowing the boarding codes. To set the boarding codes use the command:

+set boarding code=* To use this command properly make sure that the * mark is replaced with a password of your choosing. Use this command when you want to keep unwanted people out.

using the command: +shipsheet puts up a list with information about your ships systems. This can also be used to look at other ships within range. In that case add the name of the ship your trying to scan.

With the command: +viewscreen you will be able to see what is currently outside the ship.

Liftoff & Landing

Alright now that you know some of the cockpit control's let's start with the basics of flying. lets start by lifting off. Get to your ships control's and use the command:

+liftoff This command lets you, as it says, lift off from a landing pad or docking bay and gets your into orbit. Now don't fly off just yet let's get you down to the ground first. Landing is the next step in learning how to fly. so now use the command:


+land *=* this lets you land on the ground again. The first * mark is where you place the sensor id for the planet you want to land on or ship you want to dock in. The second * is the sensor ID for the landing pad or docking bay you want to land at. In order to know where to land you should know something about using the scanners. This is the next step

Scanning

Scanning lets you know what is around your ship. To know what is near your ship you can use the command:

+shortscan This command is useful to know what is in your current sector. It is often useful when you need to find a place to land your ship. The list that you see next shows you what is in your sector and their respective sensor ID numbers. You can often see ships, planets and space stations. To know if they have area's to land you can use the command:

+scan * When using this command make sure that the * mark is replaced with the contact's ID number. The list that comes next shows you some basic info and also any landing pad's or docking bay's you might be able to land on.

There is also another way to use the scanner. Use the command: +longscan This will let you scan a larger area. The screen will now show you a grid with a range of 6 sectors in all directions from your ship. Most of the time all the grids will be empty but if you're lucky you might see one having a mark in it. If that's the case you can scan it with the command:

+longscan *,* To successfully use this command input the ID of the sector your trying to scan. This ID is often number as followed -200,-200 or 200,200 the exact number will depend on where you are each number represents an X or Y coordinate. The maximum range that you can perform this scan is dependent on your sensor rating.

Traveling

So far you haven't traveled very far. let's do something about that and get you on your way, shall we? one of the ways to fly around is by using the command:

+jump to *,* This will activate the FTL drive and lets you travel to the specified X,Y coordinates you input. The coordinates you put in can be one you found using the command +longscan. An other way to travel is by using the Waypoints.

+waypoints Bring up a list of the waypoints that are stored in the ship's waypoint computer. This is very useful when you have a place you travel to a lot.

+waypoints/add *=*,* The first entry is the name you want the waypoint to have, the next two entries are the X and Y coordinates respectively. if you made a mistake with your entry use the command:

+waypoints/delete * This lets you remove a custom waypoint from the waypoint computer. The entry is either the name or the ID of the waypoint you want to remove. CAUTION: This is irreversible. Be sure of this one before you run it! if you're not sure double check it or write down the waypoints entry information. now that you know how to find a waypoint you can use it to travel to the specific destination. Use the command:

+jump to * This activates the FTL drive and lets you travel to the specified waypoint. The waypoint can be entered by name or ID #. So far you have used the FTL systems of your ship. but you can also travel using the ships sublight engines. Use the command:

+travel to *,* This will activate the ships sublight engines and lets you travel to the specified X,Y coordinates. Next to the FTL drives and Sublight engines. You can also travel using rift drive systems. use the command:

+rift * If the ships has a rift drive this command will activates the rift modulator and sends the ship through the specified rift ID. Ships that have a rift modulator, will be able to see rifts on their sensor displays.

+abort This command is usefull for when you made a mistake or want to end your travel early. It aborts any FTL or sublight travel the ship is currently engaged in and your ship will be returned to its starting coordinates. While you're traveling you might want to know how long it will take until you arrive at your destination. Use the command:

+status: This will show a readout of the ship's current status. When you're traveling it will even show you how long it will take until you arrive at your destination.

Communications

The last stop in these lessons are the different way of communication the ship has to offer you. First is the internal communication system. Use the command:

+icom * This will let you send your message to all the rooms on the ship. Sometimes you do not want to send any communications to people inside your ship but to vessels outside your ship. In that case use the command:

+broadcast * Will let you send a specified message to all vessels in your current sector. bBe careful what you send in this way since you never know who might be listening in. When you want to send a message to a specific vessel use the command:

+transmit *=* This helps you transmit a message to specific ships. The first * is the sensor contact ID. You can input multiple Sensor ID's just make sure you separate each ID with a space separator. The second * is the message you want to send to the ships.
