Specor's Hub is the primary administrative level of the city, and as such people can be seen moving about at all hours, during which the lights are kept on. Administrative offices are built into the arcology structure itself, in some cases being 'buildings' that spawn several stories in height.
The height of the hubs is approximately 500 feet, in an attempt to make the city feel less cramped.
"It is not our tradition." Chirc admits to Sarenity. "I suppose I can understand why you would be proposed to in such a way. Even if Outverser traditions do not care about one's lineage, you would have been sufficiently powerful to have nearly anyone you wanted, I suppose. Regardless of what time you exist in. I read your resume. It is quite impressive. You never married though, did you?"
Aina looks up at the shouting and blinks, a frown forming. She spots Kethren and a brow arches. With a sigh she glances up at her big orange guy and nods toward Kethren, "Keep an eye on him, ok? I don't need him all banged up because some idiot lost something and isn't smart enough to admit it." The brute nods and huffs as he stands, but doesn't move just yet, he just stares at Kethren and the scene unfolding before them.
The tiny lawyer looks up at Chirc and nods, "Thank you. No. I never did. I saw no reason to complicate my life with such matters as love and trying to share the rest of my life with one single person. I'm sure this will sound horrible, but in my experience love is a sham. A way to get what you want from another while pretending to give in return." Her eyes return to the couple, they have stopped what they were doing also to look over at the altercation between Kethren and the woman. The man is on his feet again and holding his sweethearts hand protectively in his as he stands between her and the arguing pair.
The woman narrows her eyes at Kethren and takes a few steps toward him, looking down as he suggests she might have dropped it. There on the ground is a necklace with a sparkling jeweled pendant on it. She bends down and grabs the necklace before attempting to slap Kethren hard and turn to run.
The area is full of people, but not overly crowded. Some of them are still heading toward destinations, others are stopped and staring at the altercation between Kethren and another woman. Sarenity stands to one side now watching the altercation along with the others. Chirc is beside her. Aina sits near a random building with her orangatang next to her.
Kethren evades the badly telegraphed slap with relative ease, and keeps an eye on his accuser in case more shenanigans are afoot.
The big orange guy huffs then goes back to crouching beside Aina, who just shakes her head slightly and goes back to the tablet.
"You would have fit in quite well among us." Alizee says to Sarenity, smiling a little. "Most of the oligarch marriages are arranged, a way of cementing relationships between the families." then she seems to notice as the woman goes to slap Kethren. "A rather poor place for an assault." she comments a bit lazily. "There are probably enough cameras here to answer any questions." then she smiles a bit, "Besides, she is quite slow, most likely unaugmented or lacking the ones that would assist her here. Do you want this one, or should we wait? I would prefer for us to not cause a scene if we can help it."
Leucohyle, accompanied by her cadre of arachnoid robots, comes peering out of the building. "What is all of this nonsense?" She pipes, with rabbitlike disapproval evident across her smooth, circuit-traced features.
Sarenity shakes her head as she watches the woman miss completely, "She should have at least took better aim," she replies to Chirc. "I think it would be interesting to see how it unfolds."
No sooner are the words out and the woman has turned and taken off at a run, bumping into people as she goes. A cry comes from a ways behind Keth, "Stop her! She has my necklace!"
Kethren rolling his eyes for a moment, the youngish architect gives chase. Presumably after a thief, but these days he might have simply wandered into a low budget play. Recognizing a certain voice though, he calls out as he runs "There seems to be a thief about, Leu. Mind your spiders!"
Aina sighs and glances up at her companion, "Go get her. But be careful. Don't hurt anyone." With a huff the orangutan is up and taking off at a run, while letting out a roar that's meant to clear a path. He's going after the woman Kethren is chasing, and making a heck of a racket in the process. He is big after all.
"We can handle this via secondary means." Chirc says to Sarenity, taking out her commlink. "Jordan, there has been a disturbance in Specor's hub. Have the authorities examine the cameras around this time, and either recognize whoever is causing this problem in the residential databases or send the image to the spaceport, whatever is appropriate. I would prefer to not cause a scene now if that is possible..." then she pauses as she sees the orangatang take off. "What a bother." she says, taking out her stun pistol and fires at the running woman.
"My 'spiders' can mind themselves, thank-you-very-much," Leucohyle pipes, with a small, affronted 'pip' noise. She watches dispassionately as the calamity train goes pelting by, first the thief, then the architect, then the orangutan. There is a delicate nose-crinkle, before she and her entourage go padding in Chirc/Sarenity's direction, but there is some pause when the stunner is fired. "-Really-," she says. "Er, does someone need to be taken down? Omicron is is presently loaded with Electro-Muscular Disruption rounds."
Sarenity watches silently as the ruccus continues, the orangutang's roar does indeed part a sea of people that would have kept it from reaching the girl. It also causes the girl to pause a moment, looking over her shoulder, eyes going wide as she sees not only Keth, but the giant orangutang coming. She looks about to take off at a speed faster than before, but only finds herself knocked to the ground and winded from the stunner. She can do nothing but moan and roll around helplessly.
Sarenity smiles at all this, but her attention turns to Leu as she approaches. "It seems this was good enough. Although...it might be interesting to see such a device in action."
Kethren crouches down a few steps back from the now stunned and alleged but almost certainly actual thief. "I'm not sure how long that kind of stun lasts, but I'd reccomend you staying there until the local authorities arrive and we can sort this all out."
Aina shakes her head slightly as the stun gun is fired, causing the orangutan to stop and stare at the woman. With a huff and a grunt he glances at Kethren before heading back toward Aina.
"That was unfortunate, but I believe we may begin to sort this out now." Alizee says to Sarenity as she begins to walk towards the unconscious woman and those surrounding her. "I am having security forces examine the camera footage currently." she begins. "My apologies for this inconvenience, but I am certain a review of the cameras will resolve this problem quickly enough, unless there is some other crisis that emerges within the next five minutes. I trust I have the right person if the commotion ceased."
Leucohyle simply watches the grand hurrah with faint distaste. "That was certainly an inconvenience, what with all of the hollering and flailing and nonsense. Who still -picks pockets-, nowadays? Honestly. Also in case anyone in the surrounding area gets any -ideas-, I'm simply crawling with surveillance robots and Omicron here will challenge you personally should you invade my personal space." Sniff.
Sarenity looks at Leu from the corner of her eye, a hint of a smile on her lips. She looks back to Chirc and comments, "How convenient." She stays near Leu for now, perhaps for the safety of spider bots and Omicron.
Chirc receives a communication, "Ma'am, we have tracked her back to the space port. She's an offworlder. Do you have orders?"
The woman doesn't seem capable of doing much but staing on the ground. Her hand clutches the jewels tightly as she stares up at Kethren. It would almost seems she has an imploring look in her eyes, but that could just be an inability to focus on anything.
Kethren glances up at Chirc "If you could, I'd be interested in finding out the particulars. Namely if there was any motive to the theft beyond wanting money, and if there was any particular reason she chose to try framing the crime on a visiting government official."
"Make sure you have the right person, send security forces here, then perform the apprehension." Chirc orders into her commlink. "At the very least you likely have assault charges you may file." Then she looks over at Kethren. "We can arrange for that. It was likely not connected, but I will make sure you are sent a report on the matter." another pause, "I hope you will forgive me for departing so early, but I have other business to attend to and this was not on my schedule."
"I daresay the foolhardiness exhibited upon material theft is merely compounded by the ignorance of false accusations," Leucohyle interjects, in her fluting little voice. "Likely the perpetrator did not think to perform a background check upon the target... Im-pul-sive. Very sad. Are are you quite all right, Mister-Kethren?"
"Probably panicked," Sarenity says in her matter-of-fact tone. She moves a little closer to the scene. "I'm not sure what the laws are in this place. I will have to make a visit to the law libraries and find out." This has almost a gleeful overtone to it. She looks in Leu's direction and nods, "I suspect you are right. Definitely sloppy." She looks to Chirc and nods, "It was nice to run into you again, Alizee."
The crowds move aside to allow two guards to approach the group. "We will be taking the woman with us," one announces as the other crouches to help the woman to a sitting position.
Kethren nods as he stands back up "Oh, you're probably right that it's nothing signifigant. But I do like to be sure. Don't like loose ends, and all."
Leucohyle gives another rabbitlike nose-wriggle of disapproval. "Rather sad, really. Amazing how few species will ever realise their true potential, because they are too busy behaving impulsively. Tch. Ah. Hello, Mister Kethren, Miss Sarenity."
"Good evening..." Sarenity hesitates a moment here, "My apologies. I'm not sure if you are also Doctor Hall or if you are Miss Hall?" she asks. "It is nice to see you again. Perhaps now is a good time for coffee and I can tell you about Mr. Andrew Long?" Her eyes shift to watch as the woman is led away by the guards. "I do have to agree, it is a pity," she adds under her breath.
Kethren nods to them both "Evening."
"Miss Hall is fine. Doctor Hall is my father. I am not a doctor of, well, anything," Leucohyle pipes, inclining her head to Kethren. "I have approximately an hour and a half before I must return to my ship to synchronise my mnemonic backup. Do you think it will take more or less time to explain to me this Andrew Long person?"
"I think it can be done quickly and I think you of all people would find him interesting," Sarenity states. "Mr. Kethren is welcome to join us also if he wishes."
Kethren yawns a bit "Pardon... I wouldn't mind joining, but I'm thinking right now that I better seek accomodations for the evening"
"Very well. Good night, Mister-Kethren. Travel safely," Leu pipes, before turning her bland little expression back to the lawyer. "I haven't the foggiest where to acquire coffee at this time. Also I would prefer tea but it is frequently sold in the same establishments as coffee. And pastries."
"I noticed a shop earlier," Sarenity says. "If you care to follow me? I can start the explanation on the way there."
She looks to Keth and offers a slight bow, "Do have a good evening."
The assorted horde of arachnoid robots moves to follow Sarenity shortly before Leucohyle does. "Certainly," the little clone pipes, and starts padding her way through the path opening before her in the crowd.
"I assume you do not believe in reincarnation?" Sarenity asks, giving Leu a sidewise look as she leads the way in the direction of the coffee shop. "I hope you can assure you however that no matter how odd this story sounds...it is all completely true."
"I do not believe in deification; the transmigration of consciousness is a scientific possibility, albeit loose," Leucohyle pipes, matter of factly, and raises a sparse eyebrow at the disclaimer. "Well, I suppose you can give it your best, but but I am a logical being and not prone to flights of fancy. Please continue."
Sarenity smirks at this, "As I would expect," she says as she approaches the cute little coffee shop and holds the door open for Leu. "The story starts with a man named Yevgeni Sergeytv," she explains. "I worked for him for a time taking care of his legal affairs. How he died I am not positive, only that he also had an associate by the name of Rachael Akari. Some time after his death she messaged me and asked me to come to her home on La Terre."
Leucohyle peers inside the coffee shop before heading inside, one robot clattering along in front of her, and the other clattering along behind. She inspects the tables before taking a small aerosol can from her coat and spritzing one. Presumably, this is the one she has selected. After drawing a few folded paper towels from another pocket, she cleans the table and chairs off and sits. "Continue, I am paying attention."
A young waitress comes by, setting cups and saucers on the table, "Do you have a preference?" she asks of the two. "Something similar to a pekoe type tea, please. Also a plate of tea biscuits," Sarenity orders. She looks to Leu, waiting to allow the other woman to order.
"Earl Grey if you you have it, chamomile if you do not, please, two hundred ten degrees Fahrenheit. Moderate steep time, five milliliters liquid honey or cane syrup," Leucohyle recites. "No milk. Oh and yes biscuits sound delightful."
The waitress looks at Leu with wide eyes and then nods before hurrying away.
Sarenity leans in a little, her hands clasped together and resting in her lap, "At the time Miss Akari was going by the name Arise." This is pronounced as Arees. "She explained to me that she had recovered some of the remains of Mr. Sergeytov and had found a way to compress what was left of him into a diamond form. It was...quite impressive really. She had the diamond set into a large sword." There is a brief pause here and then she adds, "This is where Andrew Long comes in..."
Leucohyle's brow furrows, and her thin lips purse. "...so... this... woman. Had taken, human remains... the remains of of a dead person, and had them compressed to the extent that they formed a crystalline structure... and then decorated... a sword with it." There is a long, long pause. "Has this person been committed for psychiatric evaluation?"
Sarenity raises a brow at this, "It was well known at the time that she was...not quite right in the head. But yes, that is exactly what she had done and then called me afterwards." Sarenity sits up a little straighter at this point. "You do have to understand that the people of La Terre were a little...strange at that point in time anyway. This was after Mr. Ritter had blown up the entire planet and it had been reborn from it's own ashes, you see."
Leucohyle keeps listening, although her lips remain pursed. "...I, see. Do... er... continue. About this Mister Long."
Sarenity nods and does indeed continue on, "She also revealed to me at the same time that Mr. Sergeytov's memories and such had actually been...sort of...I suppose you could say downloaded to a device and a dying man had been found. He was saved by implanting this device in him. I don't think she knew what it would do to him, but in a sense it made him a reincarnation of Mr. Sergeytov."
Leucohyle cants her head to the side. "Well that's rather not a a reincarnation. You do realise that mnemonic storage, while likely not quite so readily available in the time and place of which you speak, is -very- common in this day and age? It it stands to reason, then, that you can place a consciousness into am existing body just as easily as you can a blank, clone-grown body, etcetera. Although I cannot see how gaining a consciousness would repair the body of a dying organic. I I mean unless it were some kind of catastrophic mental failure."
Sarenity shrugs at this last suggestion. "I'm really not certain of the details. I simply know that I was in essence speaking with Mr. Sergeytov in the body of Mr. Long. He continued to use the name Andrew Long, but he was indeed Mr. Sergeytov." The tea is brought and set before the two ladies. Several biscuits are set on a plate and two smaller plates are set beside the tea cups. The waitress waits a moment to make sure everything is okay.
Leucohyle picks up the spoon, inspects it, and then proceeds to stir the tea, without the utensil touching the sides of the mug. Two walnut-sized arachno-bots scuttle from the little clone's shoulder to her arm, and team-lift a biscuit from the main plate over to Leu's plate. "So er, nothing remained of of the unfortunate Mister Long's consciousness, then?"
"At times there were hints that he was there and I remember him saying a few times that he was Andrew Long, but for the most part...I think not," Sarenity says with a shake of her head. "I was asked to continue on handling his legal affairs. I came to be known as Long's pitbull." A small smirk comes to her lips at this. "Those were interesting days. He built up quite the business empire on Sivad."
Leucohyle's eyes drift out of focus for a moment. "...odd. You you don't -look- like a Staffordshire Terrier at all. How odd this culture was that you found yourself in, Miss."
Sarenity actually chuckles softly at this, "It was a euphamism or nickname people gave me. Meaning I was agressive and when they saw me coming for them they knew they were in trouble." There's another pause as she stirs her tea and then takes a sip. "Here is the part that got me. I worked for Mr. Mikage here. He was Mr. Sergeytov. He said not completely as I knew him, that he had been changed in ways, but I saw him, it was him. He had the cane and everything..." she shakes her head at this.
Leucohyle's little bots vacate the biscuit as she reaches for it, inspects it, and then takes a cautious nibble. "Aaah, so hereupon we find the connection," she pipes, and takes a larger bite, which she chews for an almost measurable time before swallowing. "So Mister Mikage-slash-Sergeytov, inhabiting this Mister Long's body, Long unto Longinus, one birth unto rebirth, perhaps? I am uncertain as to why Miss-Chirc assumed that there was no connection."
Sarenity shrugs, "I don't know that there is, simply that the word brought to mind his name." She take a biscuit and looks it over. "On the other hand we spoke a little after everyone had left. She was quite interested in my sword. It contains my own remains," she says patting the sword at her hip. "Mikage gave it to me after he found me."
Leucohyle brow-furrows again. "Really? What, what do you mean, -your- remains? Have have you been regrown? And er, what is it with people and this odd attachment to memorial crystalline microstructures? Why do they put them in -swords-? It's it's somewhat peculiar. Did you die?"
"The Mikage that came here was from the fourth millenium of Earth. I am from the third millenium of Earth. He explained that in his time Akari and I were both dead. I had died first and so she put my remains into a diamond and placed it in a sword, this sword. I was...afraid to touch it at first, but nothing had blown up or been uncreated yet...that I know of," Sarenity explains.
Leucohyle crinkles her nose. "Well, that's temporally inadvisable, although er, I suppose there's not a great deal that resembles -you- in this... diamond in a sword business."
Sarenity nods at this, "That was what he said when he gave it to me," Sarenity replies. "Apparently this is a tradition that carried over here. But they do not put them in swords they simply keep them in rememberance." She takes a sip of tea before adding, "This apparently explained why so many swords were created by the Laters."
Leucohyle contemplatively nibbles another biscuit. "...do you suppose that's... a a bit... odd?"
Sarenity raises a brow and leans in just a little closer, "I would expect any ritualistic activity based on something Racheal Akari did to be odd," she replies. "I suppose that's hard to understand if you've never met the woman." There's a brief pause as she regroups her thoughts, "The woman carried around a sword with a diamond made from her own pinky finger, okay?"
Leucohyle looks somewhat relieved. "-Well-, that's er, that's good. I mean not that I'm realy that cautious about offending someone but I find that any kind of religious, ritualistic, quasireligious, etcetera conflict really ruins a good round of tea-and-biscuits. Jolly well sounds like those people were barking, honestly."
Sarenity actually chuckles at this, "What was batshit insane from what I could tell. I'm really not sure how the whole religious thing got started..." she says with a shake of her head.
Leucohyle primly sips her tea. "Indeed. But, I mean, -perhaps- Mister Sergeytov chose to... somehow memorialise Mister Long, perhaps in er... gratitude for providing him with a viable body to inhabit, presuming that stable cloning techniques were still not available in that place and time?"
Sarenity frowns at this and shrugs, "I don't know. It doesn't seem like something he would do, but I did have the same thought, so maybe..." she takes a sip of tea at this and a bite of biscuit, chewing thoughtfully. "Either way that is the story of Andrew Long," she finally adds.
"I'm I'm afraid I do not know the man, so therefore I have no prior behaviours of his to measure this against, yes?" Leucohyle pipes, as the little bots truck another biscuit over to her plate. "I -do- loathe an unanswered question... and quite-frankly without some kind of empirical evidence we'll not prove this theorem regardless."
Sarenity nods, "I would go with the assumption that it is as Miss Chirc says and not relevant. Although it could remain on the back burner for just in case," she suggests.
Leucohyle heaves a fluting little sigh. "I I -suppose-. B-but without that, we've no alternate leads. I'm still er, scanning the electronics but so far there's been nothing at least pointing towards the choice of project name? But th-the artefacts may be of assistance in learning more about the society, species, purpose, etcetera. It it does seem somewhat -odd- to er, to leave an entire civilisation without any sort of... well I suppose if he left them without a reason for their creation it would in fact give them the the freedom of -choice-, which is is of course very important in any sapient entity, to have that sort of, choice as to what direction they would like to take their lives..." She drums her fingers against the side of the mug of tea. "...that said, they would like to know."
"One thing that came out during the conversation Miss Chirc and I had was that they have one more thing in common with the Laters," Sarenity says. "They are psi resistant. Apparently more so in their experience. The Laters were the first children and these people are the second children."
Leucohyle makes a mental note; it is visible on the flickering green holo-spectacles. Check mark and everything. "All right, so er, that's solved that then, and clearly the Nodina aren't... you know. Barking mad as these, Laters apparently were. I heartily approve of er, psionic-resistance because it's just -preposterous- how many psionics just consider it to be their right and possibly their duty to go infringing their abilities upon those who are not similarly afflicted. I I mean it is not -all-, but an inordinately high percentage."
Sarenity nods at this, "I agree. Apparently the ability is so strong in them that stories of psionic catastrophies are bedtime stories here. As far as I can understand they have never experienced a psionic attack or having their thoughts read."
Leucohyle heaves a little, fluting sigh. "Must be nice... I had some -dreadful- Aukami woman come in to badger me about -nanites- of all things and mid conversation she proudly announced that she'd already divined 'everything worth knowing' about me, as though she'd just gone rioting through my laundry, and then had the absolute affrontery to be -shocked, astonished, and offended- that I I did not approve." She crinkles her nose. "And and they call -us- primitives. I mean really."
Sarenity simply stares at Leu for a moment after this explanation, "I cannot even begin to understand how violated you must have felt and still feel. I have, however, had many clients with similar stories. I am sorry you had to experience that," she says finally.
"Well I was -very- annoyed," Leucohyle pipes, seemingly untraumatized but -very- disapproving. "I threw her out on her ignorant self-deified rump. Her and and her faulty nanites that were allegedly the result of 'genius' scientific research that somehow managed to cause deadly brain hemorrhage in several of her family members. Last I heard s-she was wanted for kidnapping, murder resultant. So r-really her judgment of the the calculated worth of my lifestyle is is completely discountable. I I just don't think it makes them -better-; I I mean we can replicate most of this so-called magic by mechanical means." Sniff. "It is regrettable that she did not suffer some manner of aneurism, but I am certain that her sparkling personality will ensure that she finds herself sorted in due time."
Sarenity smiles at this, "Yes. I'm sure she will come to a fitting end," she states.
Leucohyle finishes up her tea, and looks around for the server, presumably for another round. "Er anyways that was a rather prattly digression unto my personal biases. Ahem. However if you or anyone you know is interested in personal psionic defensive technologies, do let me know. I've some projects going on hither and yon that may be of interest. Well. Once I er, develop some new workspace solutions as my current labs and habitation have gone, what's the term... AWOL?"
Sarenity raises brows at this, "AWOL?" she asks curiously. "Your shop has picked legs and walked away?" there is a hint of amusement in her tone.
Leucohyle makes a little 'we are not amused' expression. "Mmmno, Hall Research Laboratories is is located on Comorro Station, who was some time ago somehow inveigled into making a warp jump to to Aukam by Ken Pennebaker, some... alimony dodging divorcee from Earth... nonetheless... the station never made it it to Aukam and we are at the proverbial impasse. Father is also missing. I am quite upset." Her tone doesn't -quite- indicate upset, again just that level of annoyance. (And since it's theoretically yesterday we've not gotten the news that Comorro came back and crashed into the space mall.)
Sarenity blinks at this and simply stares for a moment before adding, "Perhaps I could help with some funding to get you a new research lab?" she asks.
Leucohyle utters a few small 'pip's of laughter. "Oh NO, Miss, that that won't be necessary at all. I've already numerous orders placed to er, ship manufacturers, etcetera... I've also a small habitable planet presently under survey. But these things, the replacement of established -things-, takes time. And and whilst I -presumably- have no limit to my lifespan due to constant advances in in medical-technology, I still do not have the ability to -create- time. Also quite-frankly with Father's disappearance and HIS lab also gone missing I'm afraid my avenues for definitive healthcare have also decreased. So there is a a bit of an ulterior motive in er, making inroads with the Nodina as as they seem to have, if not the direct technology, the potential for it. Yes?"
Sarenity nods, "Indeed," she replies. "I hope you are able to get your lab going and that your father is found soon."
"As as do I, I'm really very upset, I mean I was -born- on Comorro, and then just out of nowhere she decides to go traipsing around the Multiverse. Really seems a bit -mad-, honestly," Leu pipes, again still not looking terribly upset but maybe it's that Sivadian Stiff Upper Lip. Or maybe it's some really good sedatives; there is a smallish round mark that would suspiciously match a standard hypospray on her pale, otherwise unmarked neck. If one were looking for that sort of thing. "I'm I'm a bit cross with him really for not making arrangements. If if something untoward were to happen to me, certainly I've my backups, but who could I I trust with my reconstitution? Some... -less intelligent- folk? This is -me-, my life, my body, and and quite-frankly I've already had the full quota of hamfisted interference."
"Indeed. It does seem a mad thing for Comorro to do. I have spoken with her before and she seemed quite the rational being," Sarenity replies to all this. "And I do have to admit the set of lungs your father made for me have worked amazingly well."
Leucohyle smiles, a little bit proud, perhaps a little bit wistful. "Father is -brilliant-. I I am certain that he was centuries ahead of his peers even in the fortieth century. For all that we've bickered, I am very fond of him and I I rather admire his intelligence and irrepressible strength of character." Pause. "Although he could really stand to wear pants more often."
Sarenity raises eyebrows at this, "I have heard that some of the historical Earth figures that were considered genius did their best work in the nude," she comments.
Sarenity and Leu are sitting across from each other at a table selected by Leu. A server heads toward the table, presumably with refills of whatever is in the cups before them. A plate of bisuits rests between them.
"I I just think he... tries too hard to throw off the metaphorical shackles of propriety. I... I cannot even fathom the condition the labs are going to be in; I've not been able to tidy up after a weekend's debauchery in -months-. There's probably an entire commune of hedons and ne'er-do-well's just... shacked up in there," Leucohyle pipes, once again stirring her tea withou tthe spoon touching the sides. The two tiny arachnobots that were toting a biscuit across the table, team-lift style, deposit it on her plate before scuttling to surveill the... table. "But er, regardless, one cannot deny that his work, at this time, is peerless."
Chirc makes her way in, though she smiles slightly as she sees Sarenity and Leu. After entering and seeing this, she says to the first server, "I will be speaking with them." and continues towards the table.
The server simply nods at Chirc and does not try to stop her progress.
Sarenity smirks at this and nods, "You worry about your father. It is good that you do." She also stirs her tea.
The server that has just set the tea on the table waits as Chirc approaches, ready to take the new order.
Leucohyle makes a gesture as she speaks, her fingers fluttering with a rapidity that would be a dead giveaway for enhanced reflexes, were one looking for such things. "Well of -course- I do, he's my Father, and and I'm his offspring, and well most of the people he keeps company with are... less responsible. So I'm I'm really not certain anyone's looking after him... wh-wherever he is." (As of note this is a continued scene from yesterday so we don't know Comorro's done run into the Mall yet.)
"A coffee is sufficient for me currently." Chirc says to the server, "I will be up slightly late tonight." then she looks at Sarenity and Leucohyle, "I do hope the matter was resolved quickly after I left. Normally such a thing is not usually within my sphere, so I will have to ask someone to send me a brief report later." then she says to Leu, "Your father on Comorro?" she asks, "I only ever visited the place once and was less than impressed with the atmosphere, so I do not know in what condition a resident might be in."
"The offender was taken away by security. It was handled most efficiently," Sarenity replies to Chirc. She scoots her chair just slightly so as to have both women in her view. She looks between the two women again at the exchange about Comorro, "Have you made many trips off world?" she asks of Chirc.
"Minimum of fuss," Leu echoes, removing the spoon from the tea and taking another cautious bite from her biscuit. This is chewed for a nearly measurable amount of time before swallowing. "Er y-yes, Father was, among the travelers who disappeared on the failed warp to Aukam. I'm afraid he did not leave behind any manner of advanced-directives and and well if something untoward has happened, I cannot very well have him re-grown without his labs. So it is doubly unfortunate."
Chirc takes a seat at the table. "I have made a few trips." she answers Sarenity. "I have made observations on those places, but my overall conclusion is that most human governments were founded recently and are still in an early growth stage, unlike the Nodina who experienced millenia of growth and made first contact with other worlds recently." as Leu explains her situation she nods. "We have some experience with regrowth technologies, but our experience is they work best when dealing with subjects that had a significant number of cerebral implants while living. At least in terms of them being the same person that was being regrown."
"I have no understanding of regrowth technology except that my lungs work well," Sarenity says as she stirs her tea. "In my time we still had to be content with cyber technology. Although some cosmetic enhancements were available." she runs a finger over the white streak in her hair and blinks her eyes a few times.
"Well F-Father and I are both significantly augmented... I've full neural networking, mnemonic mods, enhancements, etcetera; I was 'born' with them, myself... but well lacking any kind of facilities, not to mention any sort of backup files or or samples from Father, I'm a-afraid we'd be unable to regrow him should he not return." Leucohyle pipes, very matter of factly despite the obviously sad subject matter. "So the concern is of course for for both of us but more primarily for -him-. As reluctant as I am to entrust anyone else with my healthcare it may be an inevitability at this rate."
"I must appreciate that most of those augmentations seem to aim for the subtle." Chirc says to Leu. "I have heard a few stories about riftees that claimed to have special implants that were rather overt. The sanity of those individuals seemed to be called into question." then a smile. "I have a few myself. Admittedly most of them are for memory, but I did invest in a few of the more physical ones." she pauses again. "I never would have fired into a crowd without reasonable assurance from my targeting software."
Sarenity looks Chirc over with some appreciation at her comment about targeting software, "I will have to look more into these types of enhancements if they are still possible," she comments under her breath. She turns her attention to Leu then, and she regards the clone for a moment. "Miss Leucohyle, I can say almost positively that your father will show up again at some point in time. He is like the devil and always returns at the most inappropriate moment." She seems quite sincere in saying this. It's hard to tell if this is said to be reassuring or if she's simply enjoying the stab at Dr. Hall as her expression is neutral.
Leucohyle perks, "Why thank-you," whilst mustering up a wobbly smile for Chirc. "I er, really see no reason to be -ostentatious-, and I er had some of the less-suitable cybernetics that were installed post-decanting -removed-." She sniffs, delicately, and then nods in enthusiastic agreement with Sarenity. -Regarding targeting software-, that is. "Oh oh absolutely I've a direct neural linkage to my Limbics and and all I've got to do is mark targets for Omicron and the er, discouragement is dispensed automatically." There are several blinks, followed by a curious tilt of the head. "...er. Are you making a metaphorical or literal statement with regards to Father? I'm afraid I have insignificant nonverbal cue data to to make an assessment at this time."
"External links were never a preference for me." Chirc says as Leu describes implants to her. "The devil. I doubt an individual human could perform in such a manner, so it is likely a metaphor."
"Indeed," Sarenity replies with a nod toward Chirc. "I do believe that your father is more difficult to destroy than most people and so I'm sure that he will be mostly fine and return to you at some point in time," she adds to Leu. "Have you tried sending out any communication in case he should be able to pick them up?"
Leucohyle sighs quietly. "Of of course. On a regular basis. We used to communicate all of the time via the laboratory network, but... well it's out of range. I've flown out to a a few distant spots in my ship but again, nothing. And and it's no longer connected to Synapse, either." She shrugs. "I sincerely hope he does return, of of course. But there's not much sense getting all out of sorts. If he's gone outside of Hiverspace there i-isn't much I can do. The ship I have presently ordered is rift-capable; as much as I am loath to tot about with Kamir artifact nonsense I do have experience with the technology and and it may be necessary to er, retrieve him and hopefully our laboratory if not at least the equipment therein." She looks at her belt, about two milliseconds before a little chime goes off. "Speaking of which, I er must return to my ship to begin the mnemonic synchronisation process. But I thank you for a delightful evening of intelligent conversation and emotional reassurances."
"Of course." Chirc says with a slight smile, "And I thank you for your assistance with my efforts so far. I believe we are making some progress."
Sarenity nods at this also, "Do have a good evening, Miss Hall," she replies. "It was a pleasure speaking with you also."
