Sparring - Brains vs. Brawn

Summary: A spar between a psionicist and a Pyracani warrior leads to a new friendship.

Cast: Thalia Kael Nyad

Air Date: 26 June, 2654

Setting: Northeastern Beach - <Eiru, Pyracan>

Stretching for a little under ten miles as it wraps around the northeast edge of the island, this pink sand beach is not the perfectly-combed creation that make Mesomel's beaches famous. Everything from beach glass to shells to washed-up logs to strands of rotting seaweed litter the beach at times, though large swaths of beach near the city are being maintained by the residents. A few small fused sand buildings have been put together just back from the water, with some lived-in, and others just occupied from time to time. Small boats can be seen a little ways out in the warm, teal water for much of the day with Outversers either relaxing or fishing for their suppers. A fused sand path leads southeast to the Outverser settlement, and the beach continues to the west.

Nyad would seem to be waiting for someone as he sits at the water’s edge. His feet dangling in the water as he looks off in the distance, seamlessly humming a tune to himself

Thalia Kael walks onto the beach from the city, stretching a bit and yawning as she looks around. When she notices the lone Pyracani sitting on the beach, she walks over to him and says, in her general neutral tones, "Good afternoon."

Nyad glances up at the large woman, taken aback by her size over him. He quickly looks her over as he thinks, making a mental note of the pistol, possible danger. "Afternoon to you as well, Are you binding jota?"

Thalia Kael blinks a few times at that, raising an eyebrow and asking, "Excuse me? I have not heard such an expression before..." She certainly doesn't look thretening in any way, however, other than her rigid posture and the way she inevitably looks down upon whomever she's speaking to.

Nyad chuckles slightly, realizing she doesnt understand him "Binding jota, It means to be untrusting. Tell me, Large human, are you trustworthy, Do i have anything to fear from you?" he doesnt seem to be threatened or preparing to fight, still letting his paws wallow in the water as he speaks

Thalia Kael raises an eyebrow again, saying slowly, "No...and I am not human. I am Aukami, a descendent of the Kamir. May I sit?" Her voice, while neutral, is at the same time soothing, contrasting a bit with her striking green eyes.

Nyad looks off to the sea as he answers, his wet fur shining a bit in the sun "Yes, you may sit, and I apologize for my ignorance of your race.. There are" he paused looking to the right and into the sand "There are so many species in the galaxy, and for all my life, this is all I’ve known. This planet, my home."

Thalia Kael nods and sits beside the Pyracani, pulling her knees up to her chest and saying with a nod, "Yes, there are...and many of them were actually created by the Kamir. The Aukami included in that count, and to a greater extent than most. And the Humans were accidentally brought here by the Kamir."

Nyad chuckles, looking to her as she sits down "It’s funny, I don’t even know who the Kamir are... I know of the bird-men, and I know of the very small, miniscule men. I met those recently, and now I meet yet another race, come to my planet by chance or fate, I know not." he pulls one of his paws to the back of his head, stroking it as he feels her psychic powers affecting him "Huh... Think I’m getting a headache now.. Too much thought probably" chuckles again

Thalia Kael looks over to him, saying disbelievingly, "You have never heard of the Kamir? They were an omnipotent race that seeded planets with sentient races and did experiments that impacted the workings of the universe. I thought everyone had heard of the Kamir." She blinks a few times and then looks back out to sea.

Nyad shrugs, also looking to the sea "Well i never bothered with the rest of the galaxy, I stay in the confines of my home. I may have heard of them before but ive never looked into them. To me they are but a story and a name."

Thalia Kael shakes her head a bit, "I cannot imagine that. Our race has reached for the stars for as long as we have existed...the Kamir looked like I do, by the way, in case you wished for a reference.

Nyad takes a moment to ponder before responding "The stars.. What is to be found there that surpasses my planet? Why leave your home, your comfort, your entire life, on a whim?"

Thalia Kael grins a little at that, saying amusedly, "I am afraid our race was far more overreaching than your own. Besides, our people are a dying race. We need to have something to keep us ahead, so we try to continue our predecessor's level of advancement and technology. It is not easy."

Nyad shrugs at this "It is good to meet new races, I love learning all of this, i am not scentless to the beauties of the galaxy, but as it is now im content with my planet, im content with my home." he smiles as he looks at her "And what of you? What of your home, what drives you to the stars?"

Thalia Kael ponders a moment, and says slowly, "Weellll...personally, I was on a quest to find out what exactly was wrong with me, due to an inherent ailment I had that had killed my mother, brother, and possibly my father with fatal aneurysms. As a people we ventured into the stars to make new discoveries, learn more about the universe."

Nyad holds himself silent for a moment "Im sorry, I didnt mean to bring up memories like that, I mourn for your loss and hope for success in your quest to find a cure for this ailment that plauges your family"

Thalia Kael smiles very faintly at that and shakes her head, saying, "I have been cured of it, personally, and this should be inherent in my children...if, of course, I ever have any children." She laughs a bit, saying with a faint grin, "That seems a bit unreasonable as of right now, seeing as I cannot seem to make very many friends, much less a...what do they call it...'boyfriend'."

Nyad chuckeles at the mention of boyfriend "Funny, my parents just called a partner a mate. Its the way my people are, or at least how my parents are. I was suppossed to choose a mate at the age of 16. I refused... And you’re doing a fine job of making friends right now, dont see why thats a real big problem.. Though it is custom to be friendly here, but i assumed that was custom everywere"

Thalia Kael laughs a bit at that and shakes her head again, "Most people who I meet do not like me, my friend. I suppose they are either intimidated by my abilities or my height, or something to that effect. They also say that my experimentation ideas are 'unethical', which I do not understand. Taking a few lives to preserve potentially thousands more does not sound unethical to me." She shrugs a bit and says, "But it does not matter all that much, I suppose. It may also be the fact that Aukami are extraordinarily good at hiding emotion. It is one of our many strengths that we have learned throughout the ages."

Nyad shrugs "Yes, you are indeed intimidating, maybe the reason i dont care is just because im confidant in my own abilities" smirks at his statement as he lays back on the sand, one of his legs streching out to the water and the other pull towards him, making his knee stick into the air "What is your name friend?"

Thalia Kael smiles a bit at that, and says, regally, "Thalia Kael, acomplished Psionicist and trained doctor. Who are you?" She looks over to him and, just this once, decides to be informal. I mean, it is a tribal person she's dealing with. So, she decides to take her boots off and allow her own feet to drift in the water, laying down next to him and looking up into the afternoon sky, the sun beginning to set on Pyracan.

Nyad yawns a bit as he see's the sun descending upon the land "Nyad, I am Nyad, I currently reside at the college of fine arts, honing my skills at crafting, I am a superb hunter, my skill in herbs is commendable and no-one i know can beat me in a fight when i have one of my hotukkir" he stares into the sunset, deep though obvious from his expression

Thalia Kael smirks a little at that and asks, softly, "Have you ever fought a psionicist before? They can be very crafty with their abilities. A physical weapon, like a spear or sword, has a very limited number of uses...the mind, however..."

Nyad thinks for a moment "I have fought no psionic, I know nothing of there powers, but i have no care to fight psionics. If I am to fight, I fight fair fights with hands and hotukkir!" smirks at this as he continues watching the sunset

Thalia Kael laughs a little at that, saying as she gestures to her thin body, "Do you honestly think I could fight anyone using just this? No, my mind is where my true power lies, not my body. My body is simply a vessel, nothing more."

Nyad shrugs at this "Bah.. How would i fight a mind? I cannot crush a thought, i cannot destroy an idea... Its an unfair prospect.." seems daunted by the prospect that his strength and skill could possibly mean nothing at all in a fight against a psionic

Thalia Kael laughs a little at that, saying with a faint smirk, "Oh, you can. If my physical body is hurt enough, you would still win...one's mind may be overloaded through the firing of sensory nerves and such." She giggles a bit of a girly giggle, very contrasting with her normal ways, but she coughs quickly to cover it, "Uhm..but yes, I would love to spar you sometime. Perhaps help your defenses against the psionic arts.

Nyad smiles brightly at the prospect of a test "Yes! Let us spar, I wish to see how powerful a psionic really is. Perhaps you will learn something as well, I am no fool to fighting."

Thalia Kael smiles and says, a bit eagerly compared to her generally neutral tone, "Well, would you like to right now, my friend? I have plenty of free time if you do."

Nyad looks towards the sunset long passed and then looks around, obviously the person he had been waiting for wasnt coming "Ya, I got time, Lets have some -real- fun" smirks as he hops up onto his feet in a single movement, facing her as he slides both of his hotukkir out of his scollainn. The two 27 inch rod weapons but ends resting in the sand as he stands smiling at her

Thalia Kael grins a little and asks, "Here? Alright, then, it is as good a place as any." With that, she stands up gracefully, though not quite as quickly as Nyad, and smiles, saying, "Let us begin..."

Nyad smiles and takes that as an ok to go. He quickly rushes her, in an attempt to inflict some damage before she can get any of her fancy psionics off, being that she's so close. He tries to converge on her with both of the electric tips of his hotukkir in an instant

Thalia Kael throws both her hands out as the hotukkir come toward her, stopping both of them with her telekinesis before they even get close. With that, she throws her hand out again, hitting him with a telekinetic thrust, attempting to knock him back. Nyad tumbles backwards, his surprise evident as he regains his composure, glancing at his options. "Hmmmm" he stops and looks at his options "How about you try fighting me without your magical powers? I think it'd be a great chance to test your other skills out."

Thalia Kael grins and shakes her head a bit, saying, "This whole spar was about testing my psionics against your physical prowess, remember? Why would I stop using psionics? That would just be silly." As soon as she's done talking, four more of her split from her original body, and take up positions around their foe, circling slowly."

Nyad stands confused at the several apparitions before him, lashing out at them with both of his hotukkir, hoping to hit and dislodge the real one from power

Thalia Kael grins a little as the apparitions disappear, the one he hit having been a fake. She throws her hands out and a blast of cold is released, aiming at his feet to use the wet ground as an environmental advantage, trying to freeze him to the ground.

Nyad looks down to see his feet frozen to the ground, in a panic he realizes he is losing ground and with soon lose the fight if he doesnt do something. He looks straight at her and lobs one of his hotukkir at her with all his strength

Thalia Kael widens her eyes as she sees the weapon flying at her and holds her hands out, a shield of bluish energy forming between them, but the hotukkir shatters the shield and hits her with a glancing shot to the temple, stunning her for an instant and making a deep cut. She recovers quickly, however, and focuses her mind on her unmoving target. Suddenly, his fur bursts into flame, starting at the legs and moving up. He can feel the heat coming off it, burning alive in his own fur.

Nyad begins to scream as the fire engulfs him, screaming for her to stop as he believes his life is sincerely in danger, unable to react or put together a coherent attack he drops his other hotukkir in the blaze

Thalia Kael smiles and lets go, allowing the hallucination to stop. All the pain goes away in an instant, and she walks up to him, melting the ice below him with a gesture. "A simple hallucination, my friend. And you see, now, how the mind can be just as powerful a weapon as the body." She sits down in her previous spot, beckoning for him to join her.

Nyad lays on the ground where he had previously been engulfed in flames for a moment, attempting to grasp everything that just happened "You... Thats.." he coughs, even though the smoke from the flames had been only a hallucination. He still felt like he could feel smoke in his throat. "I thought i was going to die, Do you know what that feels like? Seeing your entire life flash before your eyes in a realization that you are doomed... It was terrible, I... Never wish to experience that again... I cannot blame you, for i brought this on myself, but i must ask you. Please, do not put me through anything like that again friend. I could not forgive you if i was forced to live through such a thing again." he slowly makes his way next to her, laying on the ground "I have a personal fear of fire, I cant deal with that again..."

Thalia Kael smiles and nods, saying, "I know it was a fear, which is why I played on it. Do not worry, you were in no real danger. But, you see, what the mind percieves as real, may as well be as real as the sand below us, or the sky above us. It is our most powerful tool, and our worst enemy. And yes, I do know what it is like, for I almost died recently myself, too. That ailment I told you about? It almost killed me as well. It was due to a nanite infection that activated telepathic abilities - such as that hallucination - but caused death of brain tissue and overworked arteries as well, which leads to aneurysms and hemorrhaging. Luckily, they fixed the error in their programming before it was too late, and basically cured themselves. Now, however, about three fourths of my central nervous system consists of nanite cells."

Nyad speaks softly "Then you know what it is like, please, do not subject me to the fire again, anything else, but not the fire." shivers quite apparantly as he curls up inside his legs, his ears laying down on the side of his head as he does so. He closes his eyes as he lays in a type of rolled up ball of fur on the beach. The fire had affected him quite highly it seemed "It burned" he quietly muttered

Thalia Kael smiles softly and nods, saying, "I apologize. But you are completely fine, Nyad. Sit up, would you, and enjoy this beautiful night with me." She concentrates again, and images of peace and soothing feelings run through the Pyracani's mind. Her voice seems to resonate more within him as well, becoming more soothing, less neutral. "Come, sit." she says.

Nyad seems compelled to listen to her, his ears perking up at the sound of her voice. As the beautiful images flow through him he looks at her with a look of complete confusion, he cannot comprehend why he is feeling this way. Had he not been distraught and hurt only moments ago, he pondered. He then fully sat up looking her straight in the eyes as he spoke "So you powers strech beyond that of destruction. You can be a be benevolent as well..." he smiles brightly "Thank you." he looks off into the ocean, the night having fulling overtaken the area. He seems to see something she cannot "Some of the fishermen are still out, late night snacks perhaps. They must be Yir-Pkaut"

The rest of the night was spent to a degree that was almost romantic between the two, and Thalia felt as if she may actually get a chance to meet someone who might understand her. Nyad certainly had made a new friend, and the two odd personalities got along surprisingly well together.
