Description
The woman you've laid eyes upon stands at the shy end of tall, 1.7 meters. Her physique is more boyish, lean and narrow, curves subtle. Slender limbs show fair muscle definition, more so in her arms, and slim, nimble hands play host to scuffs, scars, and calluses. Honey-colored skin is speckled with freckles, mostly across the span of her shoulders and decolletage, the ridge of her cheekbones, and bridge of nose.
An aquiline nose slopes smoothly between roundly sculpted cheekbones on her rectangular face, and leads to plump lips and a strong chin. A small birth mark, resembling a cluster of small bubbles, marks her right temple. Her sandy-colored eyebrows and lashes nearly blend into her skin, leaving the sharp, forest green of her eyes exposed upon their makeup-less palette. That is, at least, when her hair isn't free to mob the scene.
Nya's mane is a voluminous tumble of spring-loaded coils, when unbound. When wet, it might stretch to reach her hips, but for now, the sandy locks are tied with a green cord at the base of her neck. A few wisps of baby curls go untamed, though the present effect of zero-G has really negated *any* taming, causing her hair to resemble a giant, plush topiary more so than any particular style.
She's clad in simple, station attire. A pair of jade green, elastic-waist pants clothes her lower half in light weight, thermo-control material, fitted to allow extra wiggle room in the joints. A white tank fits her torso more snugly, underneath a jade, zipper vest, fitted with loads of snap pockets and carabiner clips. A pair of white, flexible ankle-high boots clad her feet. 3 green and yellow studs bead along the upper ridge of both ears, and tiny, emerald one embeds in the hollow beneath her lip.
Biography
Nya Healy and her twin brother, Davi, were born in the year 2522 to marine botanist, Carrick Healy and astronomer, Luana Araujo, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. For centuries, the city had expanded its already massive metropolitan influence (in part due to centuries of involvement in large-scale, astronomical research), encompassing smaller cities in lower elevations, particularly coastal towns towards the south.
It was to that newer, coastal expanse of the scientific boom town that Nya’s father relocated, finishing his doctorate and researching the most recently discovered specie of deep sea, symbiotic alga. He met Luana, Nya’s mother, over the course of a long weekend ‘staycation’ she took near a resort town. Enchanted by the eccentric astronomer (who happened to dapple in spiritual healing and advisement), Carrick took Luana’s advice and settled permanently in the city. Three years later, Nya entered the world, followed approximately 7 minutes by her brother Davi. Over the next decade, 3 more brothers and 1 sister would join the brood.
The Healy children enjoyed a well-educated and privileged upbringing, accompanying both parents on occasional research and business trips that exposed them to both the delicate, ‘alien’ world beneath the waves and the intricacies of the stars above. Nya and Davi took the strongest liking to their father’s passion, and both became dive certified as teenagers, then later pursued degrees in the ecology fields.
When not engrossed in the sciences, the family pursued musical hobbies, as music was a strong focal point in both Carrick and Luana’s native Irish and Brazilian cultures which had been preserved through former generations. A few of the children, including Nya and her twin, Davi, played/sang in a little local family band, performing mostly for friends and hometown get-togethers, but also entertained tourist groups along the coastline.
Nya narrowed her focus during graduate studies to the cellulose-infused support system of civilization – plants. Though she was inspired by the lush, native vegetation of her tropical backyard, her primary subjects of study were single-celled organisms, capable of producing vast quantities of Oxygen, and when cultured in mass quantities, becoming water filtering powerhouses. Also, their small mass and swift reproduction rate made them more ideal candidates for laboratory housing.
During her time at University, Nya earned a little cash working on hydroponic systems – designing and maintaining flourishing gardens in the absent-of-soil environment of skyscraper nation. After completing her thesis, she decided it was time to take her newly acquired skills and knowledge to the next level and apply them in a less hospitable environment, slightly closer to the stars.
In year 2544, Nya relocated to Mare Tranquillitus. Relying on recommendation from her prior superiors and academia, and extensive experience in efficient hydroponics, she sought employment in the agricultural district. With new technologies and terraforming to learn and master, Nya felt as though she’d found a little slice of heaven, though it be far from her close familial ties. She did manage to fill a vacant position in the water filtration/circulation lab, culturing algal colonies and bacterial organisms to both improve water quality and produce residual oxygen into the city’s domed atmosphere.
She remained with the lab for 5 years, until the announcement was made that the Ulm Station was seeking applicants to join their crew. She seized that opportunity to put her own skills to the ultimate test, and, just possibly, be part of a research team to study otherworldly ecology, should deep space exploration one day become reality, by applying for position on board the station.
She got it.
