Swiftfoot is already seated, up at the command station. The felinoid seems somewhat ill at ease with the lofty perch, her tail flicking erratically and one ear laid halfway back. Mostly, she seems to be staring at the viewscreen for no reason in particular.
Akamatsu is leaning against a wall watching the same screen asSwifty apparently trying to see what she is looking at.
Into this happy scene comes a young Qua girl with a large duffle over her shoulder. "Newt! Newt!" Sin calls out as she makes her way in with bag thumping against her knee as she tries to get a look around with her good eye. "What the hell's this all about anyway?"
And over the comm comes a message from Command, "The airlock is prepared, you are clear for launch."
"Acknowledged," Swiftfoot answers over the comms, nodding despite the fact that it's audio-only. "Take us out, Newt." She chuffs quietly. "And see if you can manage not to hit anything, meh?" It's offered as a good-natured jest, really, one pilot to another. Akamatsu stands there still looking at the screen still not seeing what swifty was looking for.
"Uhm." Comes over the comms system, from the Wardroom, "Uhm, everything in the kitchen is secure. Did you want some coffee maybe?" The button sticks a bit and in the time it takes to unstick, Nicholas can be heard scratching at his head.
Newt looks back at Sin as she enters, "Hey! We're going exploring and stuff." Turning back he stops, pokes his tongue out at Swifty and resumes before beginning to tap away at his console. Straight faced, just, Newt gives "I think I can manage despite your mass." as his reply.
That bag makes a thumping sound as it falls from Sin's shoulder and she makes her way further into the room, "Oh well th-" she cuts short as she recognizes the Demarian, "Swifty?" she asks with a squeek to her voice and she goes for a glomp of the Demarian.
Akamatsu asks Newt "Why would Swifty think you'll hit something do you have a history I'm unaware of?"
And with that, the Sojourn begins on its way to its destination.
Swiftfoot snorts, her ears flicking with amusement. "It's a joke," she explains to Akamatsu. "Just like his reply." She activates the comm, and replies to Nicholas. "Coffee's always welcome," she replies. "Plus, there's plenty of rroom for you up herre if you'd like to--hrf!" That's about when Sinopa collides with her, the Demarian raising a paw to tousle her hair. "I'm glad you'rre coming with us, kit."
The comm to the kitchen hasn't been deactivated yet.
"Oh- Okay... Hello? Hurr.." Nicholas blinks at the comm, moving away as the sticky button pops up slowly. He moves to prepare a tray, full of coffee, cream, sugar, mugs, spoons and a sekret treat! Yum.
Newt grins, not looking up from his console, "Yeah. Nothin to worry about. I rock."
Akamatsu says in a joking/serious voice "Yes well lets hope you avoid those Newt."
"Glad to be along," Sin says as she pulls back to look up at Swifty, "Newt said there was somethin' goin' on. Not completely sure, but I got yer engines an' all that." Her head turns toward Newt and she laughs, "Spirits..he more than rocks. Couldn'ta found ya two better pilots anywheres."
Finally, the Demarian notices she's got her paw on the comm button still, and releases it. "I'm not going to be doing much piloting, I don't think," Swifty admits, giving a smirk that bares a single fang. "I find myself... somewhat uncomforrtable being in the captain's chairr again." Her ears lay back briefly as she falls to the wonderful task of watching someone else do something. That is to say, supervising.
And soon enough, the Sojourn arrives near the system. Initial scans show a set of six potential canidates on the screens.
Nicholas comes meandering up from the wardroom, the chef carrying a tray laden with coffee and cinnamon rolls! Yum yum! He moves around to start offering up the snack.
Newt, after remaining silent for most of the trip, finally pipes up, excitement evident in his voice, "We're here."
"Swifty the cap'n?" Sin asks. "I like that. You can count on me," she says brightly with a little salute. With the announcement of arrival she tries to get a better view of the screen, "Where're we at then?" she asks.
Swiftfoot nods, bringing up the information at her station. "...Six," she muses thoughtfully. "Not bad. Morre to check on, but a betterr possibility that one orr morre is liveable." The felinoid shrugs. "Shall we just starrt at the outside and worrk ourr way in? We'll need to get closerr to them to get a betterr scan." A look goes askance to Sinopa. "I don't believe the system is named. Yet." She takes the provisions from Nicholas, taking a bite of the roll and chewing thoughtfully.
Nicholas is the bringer of provisions, myesh. When he's done distributing, he takes a seat at a free console, his own roll taken and bitten.
Newt declines Nick's offer, "Thanks but I'm flying, Zombie-guy." He looks back at Swifty, "It's not?"
Sin moves up behind Newt's seat and takes a closer look, "Couldn't we call it new Demaria or somethin'?" she asks as she does so. Her eye widens, "We should start on this one," she adds, pointing to the planet closest to the edge.
Cue a bit of time passing, the ship moving from the edge of the system inward and passing within scanning distance of each planet. The Demarian continues to chomp happily on the cinnamon roll as she watches the results of the scans. "...It looks like the second planet and the fourrth planet arre the only ones that arre suitable forr ourr purrposes. The thirrd one would be good, except that it has no waterr." One of Swiftfoot's ears lays back thoughtfully. "We'rre explorring forr Svajone. I'm surre they'll come up with the designations, meh?"
Sinopa is strapped in at the engineering station, settled back in her seat and staring at the viewer, "Probably. Should we have a closer look at one of them then?" she asks curiously.
"Brring herr back arround to the second one," Swiftfoot instructs, still looking over the display at her station. Well, now she's sipping coffee instead of nomming down a cinnamon roll, so there's some change, at least. "I'd like a little closerr look at both it and the fourrth one." A nod is given toward Sinopa. "Even if we don't make landfall today, we want as much inforrmation as we can take back."
Newt replies, "Will do and gets to manouvering the ship. It makes its way through space smoothly, precisely and with a minimum of fuss.
Nicholas sips at his coffee, the Lunite clone not having one little clue what at all is going on. He sure makes a good cuppa, though.
"Should I do a deep scan then?" Sin asks, sitting up straighter in her seat. "Get a better analysis of what's there?"
Swiftfoot nods in agreement. "It looked a bit warrm, but I'd like to know how much," she replies. "And we should get an idea of how much waterr therre is, and the atmospherric composition. That sorrt of thing." She looks aside to Nicholas. "We've found two planets that can supporrt Outverrserr life," she explains. "Therre's a thirrd, but it's missing waterr. We'rre going to study the otherr two morre closely."
"Oh." Nicholas gives a nod to Swiftfoot from behind his coffee mug, "That's pretty neat then. Does that mean maybe we can get some resources off them?"
"Air is breathable," Sin reports, "Water looks good, things are looking green down there cap'n," she adds as she continues looking over the readouts on her screen.
"Grreen is good all arround," Swiftfoot replies, chuffing quietly. "The temperraturre looked a bit high..." She eyes the readout thoughtfully. "Prrobably because it's a little closerr to the planet than is optimal. Still. We can't afforrd to be *too* picky, meh?" She glances over at Nicholas, and nods. "It means we can prrobably live on them, if only in a few arreas to begin with."
Nicholas nods slowly, digesting the information given to him, "Ah, okay then." He murmurs, giving a blink, "That's pretty cool then. Get rid of some of the cramped feeling on the Station, right?"
Newt nods, "Green is good. I like green. Too hot might kinda suck, though."
Sinopa continues looking at the readout, "Hrm...yeah. It's a little up there...not horrible though. Maybe it won't be so bad near the more polar regions?" she offers.
Swiftfoot nods, one ear laying back thoughtfully. "Let's get a scan of the fourrth planet in the system, and then we can head back with the findings," she says. "Sound good?" A sidewise glance and a smile go toward Nicholas. "Exactly."
Nicholas gives a nod, the clone reaching out to grab a second cinnamon roll. Delicious cinnamon roll...
Sinopa nods and changes targets to the fourth planet, waiting quietly for the next set of readings to come in.
"This one is too cold," Swiftfoot notes, then chuffs quietly. "But liveable, perrhaps, with some worrk. A pity that therre isn't one that's just rright, meh?" Her ears flicker in amusement. "Newt, as soon as Sinopa's done scanning, go ahead and take us back to the station."
Hmm, interesting. More in one ear and out the next, really, with this mundane information. Nicholas just enjoys his baked goods and comfy chair for now.
