The Confederacy Fleet was founded in July of 2652 to protect and to serve the Orion Confederacy. While it is called the Confederacy Fleet and uses naval ranks, the Fleet also includes the ground and air-forces of the Orion Confederacy, namely their Marines and fighter squadrons.
Ranks
Officers
Admiral of the Confederacy: Only one Admiral of the Confederacy can be appointed at any given time, and can only be appointed during wartime. This individual is the supreme commander of Confederacy’s Forces, taking orders only from the civilian government.
Admiral: The highest achievable rank during peacetime. Admirals are in command of five fleets each.
Vice Admiral: A Vice Admiral is in direct command of a fleet of five capital ships. One of these ships will be their flagship.
Commodore: A Commodore is in charge of a Squadron of Capital Ships, this can be anywhere from two to three ships. It functions similarly to a Vice Admiral but on a smaller, task force scale. Commodores will typically report directly to Admirals.
Captain: Captains are in command of an individual Capital Ship, be it Destroyer, Cruiser or Carrier. Furthermore, within each fleet there is a single Captain who is in command of the Fleet’s Marines if applicable. The same goes for the Fleet’s fighter craft.
Commander: A Commander serves as an XO upon Capital Ships. If the Captain is unable to do his duty, for whatever reason, it is the job of the Commander to see it done. On Capital ships smaller than Destroyers, the rank of Captain is replaced by Commander.
Lieutenant Commander: Lieutenant Commanders are in charge of individual departments upon a Capital Ship. Engineering, Marines, Fighters, Weapons, Medical, Navigation and Communications/Intelligence are the departments. In some cases, such as on Carriers, where the Fighter department is excessively large, that department head will be promoted to a full Commander.
Lieutenant: Lieutenants serve as officers within their respective departments. A Marine Lieutenant may lead a platoon, while a Fighter Lieutenant may lead a Squadron, and a Weapons Lieutenant may be in charge of a certain battery of guns.
Lieutenant Junior Grade: A Lieutenant Junior Grade functions in exactly the same role as a Lieutenant. A Lieutenant is simply denoted as having more experience.
Enlisted
Master Chief Petty Officer: Every ship will have a single Master Chief Petty Officer. This individual is to function as a liaison between the enlisted men and the officers, primarily the highest ranking officer onboard the ship.
Chief Petty Officer: These will function as the primary NCO’s within a department. Marine Chief Petty Officers will lead squads, Weapons Chief Petty Officers may be in charge of a specific gun, Engineering Chief Petty Officers may be in charge of a certain system, and so on.
Petty Officer: These are the assistant NCO’s. A Marine Squad will have a Petty Officer in it who will lead half the squad, or the full squad if the Chief Petty Officer is down. Essentially, a Petty Officer functions as a Chief Petty Officers second in command.
Spacer First Class: The basic soldiers of the CF.
Spacer: Identical in job to Spacer First Class. SFC rank simply denotes seniority, and a higher paygrade.
Uniform
The Fleet uniform consists of a gray utility cap, a gray jacket, gray slacks, a black henley undershirt, black socks and black shoes. Upon the cap are four black stars, along with a stylized milky way galaxy, also in black. On the jacket, the soldier's name is upon a patch on their right chest, and a patch denoting their assigned ship is on the left chest. Enlisted personnel will have their rank insignia upon their sleeves, while officers will wear them on their collars.
