Scientists puzzle over mystery bug

Posted By: Danger Article: FEB08-9 Reported To: INN Reported On: Castor Reported At: Sun Feb 17 19:10:25 3008 URSINIRU, CASTOR -- Workers restoring Castor's expansive banyan forests have stumbled upon an unusual variant of the native rumchiki bug, one scientists believe may be the result of Phyrrian occupation."It is a remarkable finding," said Dr. Rurchuri Bubburt, biogeneticist at Ursiniru's Akripa Labs and co-chair of the city's restoration council. "We had previously believed the rumchiki exterminated by Phyrrian terraforming efforts, but it would appear that the species simply possesses an incredible ability to adapt to new and unfamiliar environments."The rumchiki bug is one of the 688 species listed under the Future Generations Act of 2996, which aims to preserve Castor's wildlands with a zero-tolerance poaching policy, stricter hunting and zoning laws, and rehabilitation of endangered wildlife. Easily identified by its glowing orange carapace, the rumchiki was driven to near-extinction when it established itself as an unwelcome pest, camoflaging itself in swarms around campfires and building intrusive nests near sources of heat and fire. When it was rediscovered by the restoration team, however, the fire had gone out of the bug's distinctive shell, eschewing red-hot hues for icy blue. Dr. Bubburt believes this was an act of self-defense. "The rumchiki has never been known to change its color at will," he claims. "Though at present we believe that the bugs were attracted to the Taskers' thruster exhausts, and their photic organs responded accordingly."Further tests are being conducted at Akripa Labs.

Citing clear conflict of interest, the Commerce Council's demand came with the threat that the Council would cease to consider Public Accountancy rulings binding, stating in the press release that the handling of the current case represents "clearly impaired judgement."The Public Accountancy agreed to halt its investigation following a closed-doors meeting between its representatives and the Commerce Council. Following the meeting, the Public Accountancy sent a press release to INN, saying that the Public Accountancy system "cannot be allowed to collapse."In an even more unprecedented move than the Commerce Council's initial demand, the Public Accountancy agreed to a Commerce Council suggestion to open the case to a limited number of private investigators, as well as to offer a 500,000-perl reward for a successful conclusion to the case.
