Who They Are
Lawrence Thomas is the 212th Duke of New Manchester and the Secretary of the Sivad Defence Ministry.
Description
A rather slender and nimble looking man of apparent Sivadian ancestry. Here is an exceptional specimen, standing just over six and a half feet tall, with a swift athletic build, though he carries himself with decided awareness and care. Despite his slenderness, he moves with the rolling grace of a stud Percheron. His piercing green eyes look alert and intelligent. His Romanesque nose sits like a dark precipice over the thin chasm of his lips and the noble square of his jaw and chin. His head is shaved bald.
On his left ring finger he wears a stylish white gold track link band inside a yellow gold exterior band.
He wears a charcoal short tabard with a black embroidered piley bendy pattern running down it, over a carefully tailored charcoal band collared shirt. He wears crisply pressed black dress trousers bloused over highly shined RNS deck shoes. Pinned on the left side of his collar is a silver =*= symbol and on the right is a small heron. A brilliant blue ceremonial sash issues forth from the embroidered fist of a gauntlet that is sewn into his right shoulder board and runs across his chest to disappear into the hem of his tabard. Around his waist is an fancy black leather scabbard rig with a apparently Florentine setup. On his right and left hips are odd looking pistols.
Biography
Born the only child into a highly placed noble family, Lawrence had all the blessings of station and riches. His father was Duke Thomas Thomas of New Manchester, closely allied to the Royal Family, and his mother was a legendary beauty. His mother was as cold and distant as she was beautful. Her only joy in life was her son. She encouraged his interests. He was a nimbly dexterous child who excelled at gymnastics and small arms. He was privately tutored from the time he was a child to the time his father's influence garnered him a slot at the Imperial War Preparatory Academy. He was rigorously tutored both physically and mentally. When Lawrence was at the Prep School he found he had a love for poetry. He reads voraciously and writes with passing interest. When he was of age he entered the Academy. His father made a sizable donation to the institution and it's dock facilities took on the Manchester family name. He grew into a nimble athletic young man with a strong sense of right and wrong. After graduating from the Naval Academy Lawrence chose his older Oxford Graduated cousin to stand as his proxy and pursued his career in the Royal Navy. His early promotions came fast due to his political connections. He served as a boarding officer in many engagements. His nimble Dexterity enabled him to practically dance in the face of death. He returned home as often as he could, always in time for a ball or formal dinner. He enjoyed regaling the rest of the 'peerage' with tales of bravery and exploration. He WORKED his way to First Officer on a frigate before he was 23, a fact he is enormously proud of, he enjoyed the idea that he had achieved through excellence what others achieved through patience. He liked being better than his peers. Lawrence didn't have to wait long before he was given a command of his own. He was the Captain of the HMS Essex. The Admiralty finally took notice of him. They decided having an Earl out in the regular fleet was counter productive. He was stationed at the shipyards at New Manchester and given the Rank of Commodore. He was told through unofficial channels that he was to use his influence to guard the interests of the Admiralty. After his initial posting he did time in the RNS until his father retired from politics and business then he took over both. When his father died he inherited the titled and the responsibility that came with it. He went back to being tutored on how to be the best Duke possible.
PRESENT
Lawrence is currently helping with the reestablishment of Sivad as a Galactic power.
FUTURE GOALS
Lawrence hopes to get married to his fiance soon and become a father.
