Overview
The main populace of Halagh consist of two classes: buroks and factures with other occupations falling into the hazy grey area defined by neither class. Both are considered working classes, although the factures tend to be the laborers while buroks deal with education, healing, policing, politicking, and the overall welfare of Halagh's citizens. At age 16, a Halaghi is considered adult enough to take up an occupation whether it be an apprenticeship in a labor-intensive position or adoption into the tutelage of an active burok. By age 60, a Halaghi has the option of retiring from their career and cared for by the community, but considering the sturdy and devoted nature of the Halaghi to their work, very few have been known to retire.
Buroks
To enter into an occupation as a burok, one must first undergo special training under the tutelage of a burok currently serving in that position. The careers one can foster under the title of "burok" are:
- Halaghi Buroks-in-Answering - serving on the council
- Patchuppering
- Youngling Education
- Wrongstoppering
- Permitting - assigning official work permits to those completing apprenticeships
Factures
There exists quite a bit more flexibility in the laboring class of the Halaghi, and the duration and education received in facture apprenticeships rely entirely upon the professional. However, Halaghi must take into consideration that the learning in their apprenticeship will directly influence their likelihood of gaining work once they have acquired their permit. To this end, apprenticeships generally last two Halaghi years at minimum, although this is not officially required. The careers one can obtain as a facture are:
- Distiller
- Garber
- Kieseltanker
- Pipefitter
- Samophlange Operator
- Steam Manager
- Transmogrifier
- Welder
As a facture, the market is wide open for both opportunity and need in Halagh, and no professional ever wants for work.
Other Occupations
While the majority of Halagh's citizens fall into the aforementioned categories, there are at least two notable professions that are not considered to be either Burok or Facture in nature:
- Dirigible Piloting
- Professional Pockknocker
The market for these positions is questionable at most, and so pilots and Pockknockers alike will tend to have a second occupation to keep them busy.
