Personal History

Jacen "Jay" Reilly is one among a handful of Sivadians who survived the total obliteration of their homeworld prior to the 3008 Rift Crisis. Her early history places her in Avonmouth, a well-to-do suburb of the kingdom's capital of Grand Enaj, before her first brief trip through Hiverspace aboard the colony ship Sanctuary.

Upon returning to Normalspace - and discovering that three hundred years had passed - she and her family tried their best to acclimatize to the changed world. She was enrolled in Isherwood Preparatory, where the final three years of her education were completed, before following in her father's footsteps and joining the Royal Navy Service.

Reilly's five years in the RNS began as two years at the Naval Academy in Ynos, where she obtained her commission and was assigned to the legendary HMS Indefatigable. After the conclusion of the Birthright War, she joined the crew of the HMS Peregrine II - a reassignment that eventually cost her the use of her eyes when a surprise Phyrrian attack disabled the vessel in 3007.

Her discharge from the military is what saved her from Sivad's destruction. By late 3008, she had relocated to La Terre, and was employed by a small New Parisian PMC when the Rift Crisis destroyed her universe. She and the crew of the IND Nightingale barely made it to Hancock Station - and squeaked through that small window to survival.

Initially, Reilly was as content to remain with the Nightingale as the captain was to keep the crew together, but circumstances over the years led to the dissolution of their motley team. Tragedy and poverty eventually claimed their livelihood, and by mid 2652, it was time to go their separate ways.

Sooner or later, Reilly made her way to Eiru, where she operated a small hardware store and repair shop in between more lucrative jobs, before accepting a command position aboard the colony ship Sanctuary in 2653.

Personality & Quirks

Reilly is one of those individuals for whom the glass is always half-empty. Seldom sunny in disposition, she tends toward a solitary nature, generally preferring to focus on her pet projects rather than interact with others.

Her blindness has been corrected with cybernetic implants, which have greatly improved her visual sense beyond that of the average human - at the cost of extreme vulnerability to electromagnetic damage.

Physical Description

This rangy Outverser is drawn in a palette of warm colors, but nowhere is it more evident than the unnatural red-orange hue that rings her pupils. Hard angles and chipmunk cheeks define her sunworn features, which are framed by a shaggy curtain of streaky cinnamon-and-cream hair that falls to elbow-length. While athletic in build, she is of thoroughly average stature, possessing a strut and swagger at odds with how thoroughly unimposing most larger races might find her.

Her hat is probably the first thing that draws the eye; an old, black, and floppy ten-gallon affair with a bright pink feather perched jauntily in the band. From the neck down she's garbed in what can best be described as fashionable utility: a sleeveless, silk-trimmed double-tailed coat buttoned over a fitted white singlet, grey denim jeans with black piping, and a short pair of non-skid spacer's boots. More often than not, a holster can be seen riding left-handed on her thigh, opposite a small hip satchel with a coyote-head buckle.
